Scorpion Chilli Annual Chilli Eating Competition Goes Off With A Bang!
May 2nd saw the launch of the second annual Scorpion Chilli Chilli Eating Competition at the company headquarters in Fremantle, Western Australia. In true Scorpion Chilli style the contest was held as the main event at possibly the most popular and successful promotional party of the year. The exclusive invite-only bash was attended by over 50 Chilli enthusiasts and supporters, including many independent members of the international Chilli community and small business representatives. In the words of one attendee and Scorpion Chilli Sponsor; "That party was tiiight!" (Jordan Maddrell, Maddrell Bros Garden Maintenance).
Seen by the brains at Scorpion Chilli Products as an opportunity to sponser and promote their second passion - supporting small business and emerging artists, the event also boasted an extensive art exhibition. On display were numerous examples by Crazy Cats Design artist Levi Cleeman, as well as Flower Photography founder Barbara Marshall, who also co-recorded the event.
While many of the contestants were heard to use inappropriate language and subsequently denounce all chilli as stupid and insanely masochistic, the chilli eating competition was largely thought to be a great success. After surviving numerous rounds of chilli sauces and fruit to a level that put the adults to shame, the Junior Division was announced a draw in the interests of avoiding health liabilities, with four triumphant young people claiming a legendary victory. Winners Tiana Whitting, 6, Brody Robertson, 9, Issac Cleeman, 9, and Stephen Maddrell, 13, all winning 'Scorpion Chilli Chilli Eating Competition Winner 2009' engraved mounted Trophies and a share in 2 kilograms of lollies.
While the competition in the Novice Division (adults), was equally tough and humerous, the title and trophy belonged to Candice Burns from WildfireChilli, seconded by Hannah Maddrell from Scorpion Chilli.
The final event of the night, the Experienced Division, laid claim to many casualties and some lost dinners. After a gruelling 11 rounds that saw the 7.3 million scoville-heat-unit chilli extract brought out, the title of most in-human went to Ash. Ash won a Scorpion Chilli Trophy, 6 bottles of Scorpion Chilli Sauce, a Chilli Bar Runner created and donated by WildfireChilli, and the 2009 Scorpion Chilli Chilli Eating Record.
The only reported losses of the night were the contents of several stomachs, 6 litres of milk, and a can of whipped cream.
